Intel Raid 옵션에 관한 퍼포먼스

옵션이 적용 안 되었을경우

약 1/3 으로 속도가 저하 된다고 함.

옵션 체크 사항

Write policy : write back
Cache : cached io
Read : read a head

3Ware 제품은

캐쉬를 256K 로 늘리고 속성을 Performance 모드로 바꾸면 된다.

Raid 5 퍼포먼스 관련 ( Intel Raid )

Changing cache option has a significant performance impact on Intel? RAID Controllers.

There are some adjustable Cache options and settings for each logical drive in Intel? RAID Controller: Cache Write Policy, Cache Policy and Read Policy. In order to optimize I/O performance, Intel? suggests you to set the 3 settings as "Write Back," "Cached I/O" and "Read Ahead" simultaneously.

To avoid data lost, if there is a "Battery module is missing" or "Battery voltage low" warning during system boot-up, the RAID firmware will reset Write Policy to "Write Through" even if you set it to "Write Back" in BIOS RAID Console. In this situation, you can set Write Policy to "Write Back" temporarily in RAID Web console before you do a performance test.

Operation of the RAID controller in a production environment with the cache setting to "write back" without a battery backup module installed on the RAID controller is not recommended and may result in data loss in the event of a power interruption or other system related issue.

The Intel® RAID controller Write Back cache policy can be enabled on a logical drive basis when a RAID controller cache battery backup module (BBU) is installed. The BBU will hold data in cache for a period of time in the case of a power interruption and then complete the data write to hard disk once power is returned. The amount of time the battery will hold data in cache is dependent on the controller memory and battery configuration; please check the specifications for the BBU solution being used.

If the Write Back setting is enabled in Intel® RAID BIOS Console 2 or Intel® RAID Web Console 2, the logical drive Write Back cache option will be temporarily set to Write Through during a battery recharge in order to protect data in the case of a power interruption during the charge cycle, then automatically returned to Write Back when the battery is fully charged.

When doing I/O performance tests, the performance test may show lower performance when the BBU is charging because of the temporary Write Through cache setting. For better performance metrics, please wait for the battery to be fully charged when the cache setting will be reset to Write Back for the logical drive.
